Job cuts less than forecast at Apple site
Alex Mayhew-Smith Job losses are now thought to be less than previously expected at Apple Computer’s manufacturing site in Cork, Ireland. Although Apple still refuses to comment on the outsourcing of its iMac production to LG Electronics or on job losses, negotiations with unions are believed to be over 50 redundancies of full time staff and 150 part time employees at the Irish plant. It was previously reported that 450 staff were to go from the site. LG Electronics still refuses to discuss the move. A spokesman said the company was not in any position to talk about the matter. Previously Apple Computer executives admitted the firm had outsourced production of some of its iMac computers but have not named the firm which won the deal.
