Kingston Communications plans to offer its customers high-speed interactive services this year using asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology. The scheme, involving up to 170,000 customers in the Hull area, is an extension of a successful pilot scheme.
Huw Saunders, Kingston Communications’ technology development director, estimates that the cost of implementation will exceed ?10m, although this figure is dependent on customer uptake.
The ADSL network will offer a 2Mbit/s transfer rate with some services provided at 6Mbit/s. Meanwhile, BT are pressing ahead with plans for a trial of ADSL this summer involving 2,000 homes in west London.
