LCD prices continue to rise as Japanese makers announce price increases which will lead to more expensive notebook computers and LCD based desktop displays later this year.
Matsushita Electric Industrial is the latest LCD manufacturer to say that it will raise prices on active matrix screens, commonly used in notebook computers, by at least ten percent. Earlier this year, other Japanese LCD manufacturers announced similar price increases of between 10 and 40 percent for some LCDs.
Industry observers predict that notebook computers could increase in price by as much as $150 as manufacturers pass on their costs to buyers. There will also be a increase in the price of desktop monitors that use LCD screens, a small but rapidly growing market as buyers choose the flat screens for their resolution and space saving features.
