Amid earnings warnings, layoffs and weak Asian demand that scuppered the financial results of many leading US chip companies, Linear Technology has reported another record quarter.
The maker of high performance linear chips, said that fiscal third quarter sales were $126m, an increase of 33 per cent compared with the same period one year ago. Profits for the third quarter were a record $47m, 39 per cent up from $34m for the same quarter in 1997.
“This was a good March quarter for us as we achieved strong quarterly financial performance culminating in record return on sales of 37.4 per cent. We grew cash by roughly $55m and now have $567m in cash and short-term investments,” said CEO Robert Swanson.
