Manufacturing shows signs of recovery
Richard Wilson Manufacturing output was up marginally in January, according to official figures from the Office for National Statistics. This was the first increase in almost a year and the latest indication that the problems faced by the recession-hit manufacturing sector may be bottoming out. There was a 0.1 per cent month-on-month rise in factory output. But output remained 0.9 per cent down compared to a year ago. The general view is that any sustained recovery in the sector will still be some time in materialising.
