Meggitt has posted pre-tax profits up 30 per cent to ?31.5m on a turnover of ?265.1m for 1997.
The electronics division, which manufactures sensors, saw profits increase by 29 per cent to ?12m on a turnover of ?99.9m. Demand for high technology sensors has been high and manufacturing capacity has been increased to take full advantage of the market.
Future projects include teaming up with Boeing to use smart transducers, which reduce the amount of cabling needed when measuring stresses in aircraft. The marketing agreement with Siemens Nixdorf is also helping to identify a number of future opportunities.
“Fundamentally the businesses are doing well,” commented Terry Twigger, finance director. “The city predicted the results would be ?30m, so to come in at over ?31m was very good”.
