Motorola has extended its investment in US firm Netspeak as part of a plan to offer Internet Protocol (IP) based communications over wireless networks.
The deal calls for an additional investment by Motorola of about $90m, which will give it a 34.5 percent share in the company. Motorola will also work on joint development projects and has received licenses for NetSpeak technologies.
The move extends the popularity of telephone voice based IP services, which lower the cost of long distance calls by using Internet channels, to wireless networks and devices.
