Motorola is creating 120 chip design engineering jobs in Ireland over the next three years with the setting up of a semiconductor design centre at Mahon, Cork. Recruiting of designers starts this month for the centre which is scheduled to open in the summer. It will represent an investment by the US chip firm of 5.3m Irish pounds.
It will be based on the site on Motorola’s existing software development centre and will develop IC products for wireless communications applications. The company said it will be looking for designers with RF, mixed signal and precision analogue circuit design experience.
Motorola’s semiconductor products business already has design centres in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Israel.
