National Semiconductor has agreed to acquire US chip firm ComCore Semiconductor in order to beef up its DSP products in communications applications.
The $122m deal will give National access to ComCore’s sophisticated mathematical algorithms and DSP chip design technologies.
“Networking and communications products are evolving rapidly,” said Robert Penn, general manager of National’s Communications and Consumer Group. “This acquisition will enable us to maintain a technology edge in today’s market and extend our ability to integrate more functionality in the higher performance, small geometry processes for next generation products.”
