National Semiconductor’s Cyrix division has introduced a high performance version of its highly integrated MediaGX microprocessor aimed at the fast growing low-end PC market.
The 233MHz Media GX offers several improvements, not just faster processing performance, such as support for Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system which is designed for handheld computers and embedded systems applications in consumer electronics markets.
Later this year Cyrix will introduce a new version of the MediaGX which will support an expanded set of MMX instructions based on a standard developed with rivals Advanced Micro Devices and Integrated Device Technology. MediaGX microprocessors integrate system functions requiring fewer chips in building PCs.
