NEC Aware of ADSL potential
David Manners NEC has teamed up with Aware to license its G.Lite asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology. “Our relationship with NEC signals accelerating momentum in the ADSL market-place,” said Michael Tzannes, president and CEO of US firm Aware. This view was confirmed by Greg Sheppard, Gartner Group/Dataquest analyst: “The ADSL market is ready for high volumes as service availability picks up and prices come down.” The attraction of G.Lite is that it allows broadband data transmission at speeds of up to 1.5Mbit/s over telephone lines without requiring a splitter in order to share bandwidth with voice calls.
