Edmonds was chosen by the Department of Trade and Industry for his ‘direct experience of managing significant change and of working in a competitive business environment’. Managing director of group central services of the Natwest group, Edmonds will take over from outgoing director general Don Cruickshank on April 1.
“In recent years there has been significant change in the telecommunications market,” commented Margaret Beckett, president of the board of trade. “The government wishes to promote the further development of competition and continue to encourage innovation in services and technology.”
