No return for Jedi at National
Tom Foremski As the marketing hype begins to build for the next Star Wars film, National Semiconductor said it has changed the code name for its next Cyrix microprocessor from Jedi to Gobi. National said that the change was made to avoid possible trademark infringement problems from Star Wars’ creator George Lucas who is targeting several companies over the use of Star Wars’ character names. Gobi will be out later this year. Based on the Cayenne MXi microprocessor core, it is aimed at low-end PC applications.
