Nokia revamps Communicator
Richard Ball reports on the latest semiconductors and products from CeBIT, in Hannover, GermanyNokia has brought out a new model of its pioneering Communicator 9000 mobile phone and organiser. In the form factor of a mobile handset and weighing 249 grammes, it provides GSM mobile phone capability, 14.4kbit/s wireless data transmission and Internet access. The upgraded version is called Communicator 9110. It uses a lithium-ion battery to give talk/ datacoms/ fax time of three to six hours, a standby time of 60 to 200 hours, with the phone turned on and 400 hours when it’s turned off. Charging time is two hours. The microprocessor is an AMD 486. Detachable storage comes in the shape of a thumbnail sized, 4Mbyte memory cards.
