Philips seals speech deal with IBM
Tom Foremski Philips has teamed up with IBM to develop advanced speech technologies. “Our strategic relationship with IBM allows us to share technical resources and language resource development expertise to expand our global speech recognition offerings,” said Ron van den Bos, CEO of Philips Speech Processing. As part of the deal Philips has also licensed IBM’s existing recognition technology which it will integrate in its products. It is interested in using speech recognition as the user interface in products that are too small to include a keyboard and a large screen. Analysts welcomed the deal between the two companies.
