Rambus says that sales of its logic and DRAM chips have exceeded $1bn since the company began licensing its technology to chip makers.
Much of the shipments, however, are due to Rambus DRAMs shipping in the Nintendo 64 video games console which has been on the market since 1996. Rambus has yet to reap the revenues from high volume high performance PC systems, where its technology is favoured by Intel.
“We’ve reached this significant milestone on the strength of currently available Rambus technology,” said Geoff Tate, CEO of Rambus. “Credit for this achievement also goes to our aggressive semiconductor partners, who have done much to contribute to the expanding market for Rambus-based ICs.”
