Samsung develops MMIC for IMT-2000
Roy Rubenstein Samsung Electronics has developed a 2.7V monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) prototype for the next generation IMT-2000 mobile phone standard. The MMIC can transmit and receive in the 2GHz spectrum range for IMT-2000 handsets (between 2.12 and 2.17GHz) and for those used by the global mobile personal communications standard (between 2.17 and 2.20GHz), being promoted by ICO. IMT-2000 is an digital mobile phone standard, capable of up to 2Mbit/s data rates, that will allow a handset to be used anywhere in the world. Services are set to begin in the year 2000.
