Satellites set out to catch CAP fiddlers
Roy Rubenstein The government will employ satellite-based remote sensing to catch farmers trying to fiddle the European Union’s Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). The checks will verify payments made to farmers under the CAP’s Integrated Administration and Control System. Farming minister Lord Donoghue said that remote sensing checks confirmed that most applicants had provided accurate area and cropping information. However, the checks continue to reveal a small but significant number of discrepancies.
