Chip makers will be churning out millions of terabit DRAM chips by 2014 according to forecasts by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
The SIA released its latest road map for the chip industry, predicting and setting goals for key technology milestones. One of the predictions is for 1 terabit DRAMs built in 0.035 micron processes.
By the end of this year, the SIA expects the first 1 gigabit DRAM samples with 4 gigabit DRAMs in 2002, 16 gigabit DRAMs in 2005 followed by 64 gigabit DRAMs in 2008. The latest version moves up by one year many of the technology milestones predicted in a similar document last year.
This is the first time the SIA has produced an international roadmap with input from European and Asian chip makers. The document is available for public viewing at www.itrs.net/ntrs/publntrs.nsf.
