STMicroelectronics is expanding its Bristol-based digital video IC design centre by recruiting 90 engineers over the next two years.
The company’s recently announced design agreement with VideoLogic is one of the factors behind the recruitment programme, which will expand the size of the semiconductor R&D site at Aztec West near Bristol by 45 per cent.
“Through the acquisition of Vision Group and partnerships with other companies such as Hitachi and VideoLogic, ST covers all areas of the digital consumer market,” commented Phil Morris, head of human resources at the Aztec West site. “We have teams developing new micros, PC graphics, digital video technology and imaging, plus all the software development and integration skills to provide a system-on-a-chip solution.”
Aztec West, which is becoming ST’s largest VLSI R&D site, is looking for 30 designers this year to take on system-on-a-chip design for digital video and PC graphics products. Next year a further 50 or 60 engineers will be added to the Bristol design group.
