STMicroelectronics released details of a processor core that combines DSP and microprocessor functions for embedded applications and system-on-a-chip (SOC) products.
The ST100 is targeted at communications applications and the first custom SOC incorporating the processor core will be ready by the end of this year. STMicroelectronics says that the design uses a scalable architecture that can be customised for each application, from low power versions in battery powered devices, to high-end high performance devices.
“In developing the ST100 architecture, our goal was to achieve high performance but at the same time make it possible to exploit this performance in a time compatible with the short product cycles of the fastest moving markets,” said Jean-Claude Michalina, General Manager of STMicroelectronics DSP and Micro Division.
