Sun challenges Microsoft over Java
Tom Foremski
Sun Microsystems has asked a US court to stop the sale of Microsoft’s Windows 98, until the operating system ships with a cross platform version of Java.
Sun also wants a halt to shipments of Microsoft Java tools “unless they generate only fully compatible Java software”. Microsoft called the Sun suit without merit and said that its own Java implementation offers the best performance in the industry.
However, Microsoft received some good news yesterday, with the Texas appeals court reversing its decision to be part of a group of 18 states pursuing an antitrust lawsuit against the company and removing an earlier injunction.
