Technology minister backs our engineer campaign

Minister of state for industry, science and technology, John Battle has told Britain’s electronics engineers that the issue of professional status should not be taken for granted.
The minister made the comment after being presented with a copy of the results of the reader poll published as part of Electronics Weekly’s Recognising the Engineer campaign.
“The depth of feeling on the issue is obvious,” Battle told EW. “The recognition of highly skilled staff in any organisation is vital and so the issue of personal and professional status should not be taken for granted.” Over 90 per cent of electronics engineers questioned in last month’s poll told EW that they felt undervalued by society.
The minister underlined the government’s commitment to the country’s engineering community by personally recognising the role it plays in contributing to the UK’s economic wealth.
“This government values highly the contribution made by the electronics engineering community to the economy,” said Battle.
