The fibre optic terminator….

The fibre optic terminator….Richard Wilson While fibre to the desk is still some way off, fibre connectors are becoming easier to terminate. Specialist fibre optics distributor, Auriga, has two termination solutions from AMP and 3M that are an advance on previous methods. The Quick Cure fibre optic termination kit from AMP offers an easier approach to field terminate fibre optic cables using AMP SC or ST connectors. It is based on the company’s Quick Cure adhesive – a self-curing adhesive that reacts to humidity in ambient temperature. It is a one-part cyanoacrylate adhesive and needs no oven curing or electrical power, and because it is one-part, it helps avoid the time and mess associated with two-part epoxy terminations. Quick Cure connections can be made in less than two minutes, compared with traditional epoxy methods, which can take up to 24 hours to cure at ambient temperatures and 15 minutes to heat cure. The SC and ST format Crimplok connectors from 3M Telecom Systems incorporate a malleable metal element fibre gripping technology for rigidity, strength and resistance to movement. The connector exceeds the performance requirements of EIA/TIA-568A. Crimplok’s optical performance is exceptional, with an average insertion loss of 0.12dB, and a typical return loss of 27dB. The manual termination tooling does not require power, ovens, or a work surface to be set up, so reducing installation time and eliminating the use of epoxy. Tel: 01908 274200
