Three Thumbs from ARM

Three Thumbs from ARM
Richard Ball
ARM has announced three microprocessor designs based on its ARM7TDMI core, which includes the Thumb instruction set.
Previous processors, such as the ARM710, were based on the core without Thumb. All three add 8kbyte of cache and memory management to the core. The ARM710T and 720T have full memory management units, including virtual memory support. The ‘720 differs with the addition of Windows CE support.
These devices are aimed at PDAs, smart phones and Internet appliances. The ARM740T has a simpler memory protection unit.
