TVs view e-mail via keyboard
Tom Foremski World CallNet has developed a low cost keyboard that can be added to TVs to enable the sending and receiving of e-mail. The M@il.TV keyboard would access e-mails on InterText pages specially formatted for TV viewing. The only additional requirement is a telephone line; a set-top box is not required as in other e-mail and Internet access devices. The M@il.TV keyboard differs from other home Internet access systems in that no computer knowledge is required by the users. It is also cheaper, claimed Paul Goodman-Simpson, CEO of World CallNet. “When the keyboards are available in the shops they are anticipated to retail for approximately $55,” he said. He added that the low cost of the keyboard would allow it to be given away for free by banks, or by supermarkets for home shopping services.
