US deal ranks Eurodis in distribution top four
Richard Wilson Eurodis Electron has teamed up with US distributor Pioneer-Standard Electronics in a global distribution agreement that places Eurodis in the world top four of electronic component distributors. The agreement opens the possibility of global sourcing for Eurodis. As well as the potential cost benefits of this, the UK distributor, which had sales of $500m last year, will also have increased clout in winning multinational supplier business. The five year deal involves the US firm taking a five per cent equity stake in Surrey-based Eurodis, which will itself buy some $1.5m worth of Pioneer shares. Combined sales of the new group, which will also include WPI in Taiwan with whom Pioneer has an existing relationship, will be some $3bn. “The agreement will enable Eurodis companies to offer customers the resources of a grouping with worldwide sales of $3bn,” said Robert Leigh, chairman of Eurodis.
