Neomagic has begun initial deliveries of what it claims is the industry’s first 256-bit multimedia accelerator chip for notebook computers.
The MagicMedia256AV is the first of a family of products and is a highly integrated chip combining high performance graphics, audio, video and DVD playback on the same device. It features a 256-bit wide internal synchronous graphics RAM memory architecture and more than 21 million transistors.
The company hopes for strong demand for its notebook multimedia accelerators as notebook computer manufacturers try to match the graphics and audio performance of desktop PC systems.
