Weyrad Electronics, the Weymouth-based wound component manufacturer has bought BBH Windings from its parent Advance International.
As a result of the deal BBH’s site at Bishop Auckland will close. According to Weyrad, the Bishop Auckland staff will be given the opportunity to move to new jobs at the company’s Weymouth facility where the newly merged businesses will be based.
“There will be many factors, such as reduced manufacturing cost and an enhanced product range where both Weyrad and BBH customers will benefit,” commented Weyrad’s managing director, Chris Hutton-Penman.
BBH, which Advance acquired from Premier Farnell in 1995, has a turnover of around ?3m and employs 75 staff. Weyrad itself was purchased from Racal in a management buyout in 1996.
