Xilinx makes design of two million gate FPGAs possible

Programmable logic firm Xilinx has announced an upgrade to its design software.
Version 2.1i adds support for Virtex FPGAs with two million gates of logic. And teams of designers around the world can collaborate on designs via the Internet.
“For two million gates there were a few things we needed to focus on, including run time,” said Giles Peckham, marketing manager for Xilinx. “We can now compile a 100,000 gate design in less than one minute.”
FPGA Express, the synthesis tool from Synopsys, has been integrated into the design flow. This, Peckham said, improves quality of results and speed.
