A strong year for Oldham semiconductor manufacturer Zetex helped parent company Telemetrix turn around 1996’s loss into a ?4.9m pre-tax profit this time around.
Both Telemetrix’s UK businesses, Zetex and Trend, the ISDN telecoms test equipment supplier, had a good year. Most notable was Zetex, which increased pre-tax profit by 14 per cent to ?5.6m.
Chairman Dr Colin Gaskell is confident that continuing demand for products in the telecoms sector and the introduction of new products will provide a base for further growth at Zetex and Trend in 1998. “For the first two months of the current year trading at the wholly owned subsidiaries is ahead of budget and last year,” said Gaskell.
