Called PMK432 BJ108MU-TE, it is aimed at replacing electrolytic capacitors in power supplies for ICT-related devices, such as basestations and servers, and backing-up energy harvesting devices.
“Generally, multi-layer ceramic capacitors have a low ESR and superior frequency characteristics as compared to electrolytic capacitors and are effective as smoothing capacitors for controlling the ripple current in increasingly high-frequency power circuits,” accirding to the firm. “Furthermore, the 1,000μF multi-layer ceramic capacitor, with a one-digit higher capacitance than the conventional product range, facilitates the replacement of electrolytic capacitors that are concurrently used with multi-layer ceramic capacitors, realising MLCC only design,”, adding that it is smaller than an electrolytic capacitors.
Designers can find the device’s fundamental parameters in Taiyo Yuden’s Easy Power Delivery Network (PDN) Tool, available on its website.
The firm introduced the world’s first 4532-size 470μF capacitor in 2015. “By further improving materials, thin film technology and multi-layer capabilities we have successfully commercialised the world’s first multi-layer ceramic capacitor with a capacitance of 1,000μF, which represents a milestone for our development team,” it said. “Taiyo Yuden will continue to make additions to its line-up, typified by expanding rated voltages of high-value multi-layer ceramic capacitors.”
Production for the 1,000μF capacitor atarts this month at a rate of 100,000 units per month.
